While August brings breezy afternoons and the final beach days of Summer, there is a monumental reason why we recognize the month of August.

This year, we celebrate the 16th National Black Business Month (NBBM), a month long holiday celebrating Black-owned businesses in our communities. NBBM reminds us all to continue amplifying Black voices and supporting those who are marginalized because of their race — not just this month, but EVERY MONTH.

Join us in honoring + celebrating #BlackBusinessMonth! What you will see below are just a few of the amazing local Black-owned businesses, companies, eateries and brands that the B/SPOKE team cannot recommend enough!

Brown & Coconut

Sisters Letisha and Zeena Brown founded Brown & Coconut after many years of grappling with popular skin care products that were simply ineffective or created more problems for their skin. What makes Brown & Coconut especially unique is that all of their products are plant-based, designed to heal the skin in a way that both nourishes and effectively treats.

Organic Bath Co.

Born with love in Charleston, MA, Organic Bath Co. features both skin care and bath & body products with the mission of being clean, not complicated. Founders Gianne Doherty and Jay Weeks saw a space in the market for skin care that you don’t need to worry about putting on your body; skincare that is straightforward, unisex and crafted free of anything harmful.

TRILLFIT

A boutique fitness studio located in our home city of Boston, MA, TRILLFIT brings the world of fitness, wellness and hip-hop dance to the next level with classes ranging from Restorative Sculpt to Cardio Boxing and Dance. In addition, TRILLFIT also paves the way for diversity, inclusivity and equal access to fitness and wellness for all with MISSION TRILL, the business’s pledge to equity, access and collaboration.

4 Corners Yoga + Wellness

4 Corners Yoga + Wellness came together as one company that was previously two, when co-founders Christine Rose & Karuna O’Donnell’s businesses became one, offering both yoga classes and massage services. Together, the founders see their business as a welcoming space that ultimately promotes body positivity, accessibility and well-being.

BRED Gourmet

Boasting mouth-watering sandwiches and an overall drool-worthy menu selection, BRED Gourmet in Dorchester is not a spot to miss. With the option to pick-up your order and take away, have a little something delivered straight to your door or even have an event catered, BRED has got you covered.

Le Bon Jour

There is undeniably something for everyone to choose from at Le Bon Jour in East Falmouth, just minutes away from our CAPE HOUSE Studio in Mashpee. With various healthy bowls, scrumptious burritos, smoothies and more, this local spot has become a Cape staple for many—we can’t recommend the Thai Buddha Bowl or a Crispy Flounder Burrito enough.
