Jess is a Cape House R/DE Instructor, mom of two, and works full-time in operations for a Boston-based company.

After studying Entrepreneurship at Babson College, Jess and her husband, Ross, moved all across the country before settling into their home on Cape. With a passion for adventure and travel, you can catch Jess hiking in the mountains, checking out local spots for brews + brunch, and of course, hanging with her kiddos – Wyatt & Conall. We can’t forget to mention that Jess LOVES Dave Matthews Band and has seen him 53 times in concert (WOW).

This week, Jess is spilling her TOP 5 TIPS TO WORKING FROM HOME WITH KIDS — even without kids, Jess has been working from home for over four years, so her WFH advice is 10/10.

JESS’ TOP 5 TIPS TO WORKING FROM HOME WITH KIDS:

1. SHARED FAMILY CALENDAR

My husband, Ross, and I created a “shared family calendar” with all of our meetings/obligations. This allows us to see who will have the kids at what times and when we might have conflicting schedules.

2. ANTICIPATING AND PREPPING FOR BUSY MOMENTS

Preparing things like snacks, activities (coloring, books, toys, little easy crafts) AHEAD of the busy points in your day makes life SO much easier. Having whatever you can prepped and ready in advance will help alleviate stress in the moment!

3. CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK

Sometimes things like screen-time are unavoidable. Don’t beat yourself up over it! We are living in unprecedented times and you do what you have to do sometimes.

4. FLEXING YOUR WORK SCHEDULE

Ross and I try to flex and coordinate our work schedule whenever possible/necessary. Sometimes this doesn’t work due to meeting obligations, but oftentimes we are able to adjust work times to make sure one parent is focusing on the kids at all times.

5. SCHEDULING TIME FOR YOURSELF

When you work from home with kids and a spouse, you NEED to carve out adult time for yourself – whether it’s five minutes to have coffee in the morning, a B/SPOKE ON DEMAND class, going to class at the studio, taking a walk, meditating, etc. That has been a HUGE saving grace in our household.

Check out Jess’ schedule HERE – she can’t wait to meet you + R/DE together!
