The Rose Kennedy Greenway is a 1.5 mile long public park that sits atop a highway tunnel. Throughout the whole year, the park is filled with public art installations, delicious food options, a variety of events, and plenty of green space, but the Greenway is at its best during the summer months. FITNESS – The Greenway has a fitness program presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. They offer completely free fitness classes in the park, ranging from yoga to pilates, boot camps, dance lessons, and spin classes! They plan on offering over 100 free classes in 2018 for all abilities and these classes are a great way to get fit and be outdoors. If you’re looking to try something new or just looking to save a few bucks, these free fitness classes are a perfect opportunity for a great workout.
FOOD – Every weekday, a wide variety of food trucks can be found at the Dewey Square Plaza right in front of South Station. The lineup changes daily and new trucks are added all the time. Popular local favorites include Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, Bon Me, The Cookie Monstah, and Chicken & Rice Guys. Trucks also park at the Rowes Wharf Plaza along High Street every weekday, giving you plenty of different options for food!
DRINK – New this year is the Downeast Back Porch located at Dewey Square creating a relaxed, dynamic, and family-friendly space with a rotating mix of food truck, lawn games, live music, and other events. Dog friendly and budget friendly, the porch will offer five ciders from Downeast Cider House will be on tap, including a Greenway-only release, Mint Lemonade. In addition to the cider offering, a rotating selection of New England craft brewers will be featured, with a new brewery showcased each week, as well as wine from Half Bottle Cans.
MARKETS – Every Tuesday and Thursday from May through Thanksgiving, there’s a farmers’ market in Dewey Square Plaza where you can stock up on produce and more from local vendors. Every Saturday and every other Sunday through the summer and early fall, visit the Greenway Open Market at the Wharf District Parks, an open-air market featuring local artists, crafters, designers, and food trucks. Shop local, grab some food, and take in the sights of the city!
ENTERTAINMENT – Every Thursday from May to September, the Greenway hosts Boston Calling Block Parties with a cash bar and live music, with local acts announced week by week. The Greenway also hosts a Berklee Concert Series with free performances from students at Berklee College of Music. In addition to the music, the Greenway hosts frequent outdoor movie screenings at sunset, all for free!
